Overview & Description
Groups allow administrators to define security roles and permission bundles once, then assign them to multiple staff members. This ensures consistent security guardrails and eliminates the need to configure permissions individually for each user.
Navigation Steps
Navigate to Admin Sidebar > Authentication > Groups.
Common Campus Role Groups
| Role Group | Typical Responsibilities & Permissions |
|---|---|
| Faculty / Instructors | Can view assigned classes, launch live scanning sessions, manage enrolled class rosters, and export class attendance sheets. |
| Registrars & Student Affairs | Can manage students (Persons), issue/replace RFID smart badges (ID Cards), configure ID Templates, and print ID cards. |
| Department Chairs & Deans | Can manage academic Programs, view department-wide classes, and review departmental attendance reports. |
| IT & System Administrators | Full access to manage Devices, Device Logs, Users, Groups, and system-wide configuration. |

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Who would likely have Adding, Editing, or Deleting access to this feature?
A: [Placeholder: Add role-specific guidance based on your institution's access policies. Access to permission group configuration is determined by assigned user or group permissions. Coordinate with your administrators for specific access requirements.]
Q: How do permissions affect what a user sees on their sidebar?
A: In the system, if a user's assigned groups do not grant view permissions for a specific module, ScannerSky automatically hides that module from their sidebar navigation.
Q: Can a user belong to multiple groups in the system?
A: Yes. When a user is assigned to multiple groups, their effective access is the union of all permissions granted across those groups.
